Photos of genocide committed by Armenians in Azerbaijan, 1918

Album – Photo-materials and documents of pogroms in Azerbaijan is part of a series of materials arranged by the Emergency Investigation Commission (EIC), which was established by the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan in July 1918, to investigate the facts of violence and genocide committed against the Muslim population and their properties throughout the Transcaucasus since World War I. This edition includes rare photographs taken and collected by EIC, which provide evidence of the tragic events that occured between March and July 1918 in the cities of Baku and Shamakhy, and the towns of the Shamakhi, Goychay, and Javad districts. Bloodthirsty and armed gangs of Armenian Dashnaks murdered thousands of innocent Azerbaijanis, as well as destroying many architectural monuments, mosques, residential houses in the cities, entire settlements, civil and trade offices, schools, and hospitals – all owned by the Muslim population. The EIC sent almost a hundred of these photographs to France, with the Azerbaijani Delegation which was taking part at the Paris Peacе Conference: the photographs were handed over to the leaders of many of the foreign nations. These photographs subsequently disappeared, and, for over ninety years were considered as lost. A hundred and three of these photographs, recently found in foreign archives, are presented to the readers by Professor Mrs.Solmaz Rustamova-Tohidi, Doctor of History, whо has arranged the album.
