As VarYox, we have documented three historical public spaces for art and culture in Baku. One of these historical places is the Kirkha.
The Church of the Saviour (Azerbaijani: Xilaskar kilsəsi; German: Erlöserkirche, also known as the kirkha, from the German word “Kirche”) is a Lutheran church in Baku, Azerbaijan (28 May Street), built with donations by parishioner Adolf Eichler and consecrated on March 14, 1899. Kirche is a Germano-Azerbaijani cultural centre where a very wide range of different events is held. Holiday celebrations, concerts and art exhibitions are all staged here, Its good acoustics greatly enhance the classical, electronic, jazz, ballet and opera performances given at the venue. Look out for Mugham shows, an Azerbaijani folk tradition that is a truly unique musical style.
This project is realised with the support of the Danish Cultural Institute.
